Leg Lengthening

Leg-Lengthening Surgery Mostly Attracts…You Guessed It: Short Men!

Most men wish they were taller. Leg-lengthening surgery (also referred to as limb-lengthening) is a radical new cosmetic procedure that can make short peoples’ wish to be taller come true. A growing number of people (mostly men) are pursuing this type of operation in the US. Leg-lengthening is gaining in popularity because it gives guys (or gals) the chance to gain a few inches in height.

Male Implants

Male Implants Make for Macho Men

Women undergoing cosmetic plastic surgery to make them look younger and more beautiful are fairly commonplace. But now, men are slowly catching up. Sure, guys have been getting their share of run-of-the-mill nose jobs, liposuction, and even Botox treatments, affectionately known as “bro-tox.” Then they took it up a notch, experimenting with cheek and chin augmentation, and eyelid surgery to reduce crow’s feet, wrinkles, and that aged, puffy look from fat accumulation in the upper and lower lids. Now, some men are delving into an array of cosmetic surgical procedures to take that masculine look to a whole new level. Here’s a quick review of some of the more bizarre and offbeat plastic surgery offerings for men.

Bagel Heads

Hold the Cream Cheese—Please!

There’s a new trend in extreme body modification, and we’re glad the result is not permanent! They call themselves Bagel Heads: people who have saline solution injected into their foreheads, which is then sculpted to create the shape of a bagel. The process is not surgical and it’s actually quite simple.

A certified piercer injects 300 to 400 ccs of medical-grade saline, inserting a needle under the mid-forehead skin, with a slow drip. A round swelling forms in about an hour. The clinician then presses his or her thumb in the middle of the saline blob that has formed, simultaneously rounding out the edges and forming the “hole” in the bagel.

Female Genital Mutilation

Female Genital Mutilation

It is estimated that 100 to 140 million women worldwide have undergone female genital mutilation (FGM), and an additional 3 million girls are at risk of FGM every year. FGM refers to a group of practices that the World Health Organization (WHO) has classified into 4 types…

Neck Elongating

Neck Elongating Still Practiced Within This Indigenous Tribe

Imagine being a 5-year-old girl and having a brass coil collar weighing about 4½ pounds wrapped around your neck. And, what you have to look forward to, as you blossom into a woman, are incremental increases to your “fashionista” accessary look until you’re wearing a full set of brass coils around your neck weighing about 22 pounds! Their neck skin often chafes and becomes bruised and discolored from the stress of the coils and the years of wear.

Elf Ears

“Elf Envy” Elevates Elf Ear Surgery

Blame it on the Keebler Cookie Elves… or Mr. Spock… or Santa’s elves… or the movie Elf, starring Will Ferrell… or the Lord of the Rings trilogy… or Avatar, but the mainstream popularity and fascination with elves has created the newest cosmetic surgery craze.

Eyelid Tattooing

Don’t Blink: Eyelid Tattooing Now Trending

I don’t wear eye makeup, and it’s not only because I’m a guy. The thought of using a pointy instrument to apply pigment so close to my eyeballs every morning sounds especially daunting. So I can understand how some women consider taking advantage of a permanent solution to avoid this potentially perilous and time-consuming daily chore. Plus, there’s the added benefit of never worrying about reapplying makeup later in the day after swimming or sweating at the gym. So, what can go wrong?

The Barbie Surgery

Porn Star Surgery…aka “The Barbie”

Nowadays, many men expect women to be “hairless down there.” And many women, pressured by boyfriends and husbands, accommodate this expectation by regularly shaving or waxing off their pubic hair. A recent study by sex researcher Dr. Debra Herbenics showed that 59% of women surveyed reported removing their pubic hair at least some of the time.

Scarification involves cutting, burning, or branding words or images into the skin in order to make the resulting scar a permanent body modification. Sort of like a tattoo on steroids!

In order to prevent scarification tools from cutting too deep, burning at too high a temperature, or burning too long, the scarification artist should have a thorough knowledge of human skin anatomy. And, because it’s possible that diseases can be passed into the air during the procedure, additional precautions, such as wearing masks, need to be incorporated into the process.

Corset Piercing

Corset Piercing

It’s all about individualism, expression, and the freedom to do and be. Corset piercing is a temporary body modification that can be very alluring. It consists of at least, and most commonly, 2 rows of bilaterally symmetrical piercings that create a corseted or ladder-like appearance. Some designs have branched out to include spider weblike or spherical applications. More popular as a summer look, corset piercings are often referred to as a fetish. They are frequently performed on the back, but also on stomach sides, necks, chests, thighs, legs, ankles, arms, and even faces. This body modification is not easy to care for or maintain. There are abundant issues with regard to healing, rejection, and scarring. The location of corset piercings can make care difficult, especially if they are located on the person’s back, which is hard to reach independently. Vigilance is required to avoid damage from hair, clothing, blankets, bedding, exercise, and so much more. This type of piercing can, and usually does, leave permanent scarring.
