Freedom of speech has turned into freedom to bully and freedom to be cruel to one another. The Internet makes it funny, adults do it, pop culture perpetuates it, and politicians support it.

Rules and regulations in health care seem to come randomly out of nowhere, and we clinicians think we have no input. We do. Tenets of federal and state administrative law provide for comments and feedback prior to the imposition of new rules. We just have to speak up.
The idea is that a person’s ability to understand and control their medical records, previous lab results, and even biometric data will lead to more engaged patients and better outcomes. While enticing to blindly follow this logic, there remains a fallacy to such arguments.
