If you’re looking for a way to dissolve unwanted fat and cellulite without having to resort to an invasive liposuction procedure, you may want to research mesotherapy. Developed by French doctor Michel Pistor, the technique uses injections of special combinations of plant derivatives, vitamins, minerals, enzymes, and special medications specifically developed to help the body melt away fat located in the middle layers of skin, also called the mesoderm.

Interestingly, the mesotherapy injection technique was initially developed to treat vascular conditions and sports injuries, but when Dr. Pistor noticed the effects the treatments had on fat cells in the mesoderm, he turned his attention to helping people with unwanted bulges melt away those deposits without the need for surgery.

The name mesotherapy is derived from the mesoderm, a deeper layer of tissue where many stubborn fat cells are found. Mesotherapy injections target this deeper layer to dissolve fat, using special formulations that can be customized to each patient’s unique needs. The technique relies on very thin needles that can penetrate problem areas, releasing the special solution in or near fatty deposits.

Can Mesotherapy Be Used Anywhere on the Body?

Mesotherapy is most commonly used to treat areas in the belly, hips, thighs, buttocks, arms, legs, and back, and it can be used for both men and women. Mesotherapy treatments are quick, usually taking just a few minutes depending on the size of the area being treated. Most patients experience only minimal side effects like bruising or slight swelling, and some patients have mild aching or soreness in the treatment area for a few days afterward.

Is Mesotherapy Effective?

Reports have shown mesotherapy can be an effective choice for many patients, but as with many fat-reduction techniques, the results you achieve can vary markedly from the results achieved by another patient. It’s also important to realize you’ll need several sessions to see effects; most patients need at least 10 sessions to get the results they’re looking for, and some may need more. The number you’ll need will depend on your goals and the amount of fat you want to treat.

Is Mesotherapy Used in the US?

Yes, mesotherapy is widely used for fat reduction in both men and women in the US. To date, despite patient and physician reports of its effectiveness, there have been no clinical trials conducted to show whether or not mesotherapy is effective or to determine which patients are ideal candidates.
